ISLAND: VULCANO
SUNDAY
DEPARTURE: 2:00 PM – RETURN: approx. 9:00 PM
DEPARTURE PORT: Marina Corta – Lipari
Vulcano is the island closest to Lipari and can be reached after about fifteen minutes of navigation, skirting the evocative promontory of Vulcanello—a relatively young lava formation that marks the island’s natural entrance. The first stop is scheduled at the Porto di Ponente, where we will enjoy a swim in the beautiful inlet known as Caletta Piccola, characterized by clear waters and seabeds rich in shimmering reflections.
Navigation then continues toward two of the island’s most famous natural attractions: the monumental Grotta del Cavallo, a large sea cave renowned for its striking light effects and the natural echo of the waves, and the nearby Piscina di Venere, a natural pool with turquoise and emerald hues, steeped in a mythical atmosphere that local tradition associates with the goddess of love. A second swimming stop is planned nearby, ideal for fully experiencing the charm of this stretch of coastline.
We then resume our course toward Spiaggia Lunga and the Grotta Abate, sailing along a particularly geologically rich section of the island marked by volcanic rock formations. From here, we reach the quiet hamlet of Gelso, a small outpost overlooking the open sea, where another swimming stop is planned at the beautiful Spiaggia dell’Asino—one of the most evocative beaches in the archipelago thanks to its dark sand and the surrounding wild landscape.
After the stop, we cruise along the island’s eastern side, passing panoramic points such as Capo Grillo, Scoglio della Roia, and Scoglio della Sirenetta—places where Vulcano’s volcanic nature reveals itself in all its power through layered lava flows and uniquely shaped rocks.
Next, disembarkation is scheduled at the Porto di Levante, with a stop of approximately four hours. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the town center, observe the Mud Pools (Pozza dei Fanghi, currently subject to access regulations), the Fumaroles along the shoreline, and the nearby Spiaggia delle Sabbie Nere, famous for its intensely colored volcanic sand. It will also be possible to visit the geothermal pools, tangible evidence of the volcanic activity still alive beneath the island’s surface.
Time ashore may also extend to the evocative Valley of the Monsters (Valle dei Mostri), an area characterized by fascinating lava formations with bizarre shapes, or— for the more adventurous—an ascent to the crater of Vulcano. This hike leads to breathtaking views over the entire Aeolian archipelago, offering a truly unique and unforgettable experience.
The program may be subject to change due to adverse weather and sea conditions.
